Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 July 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Newsigma Technologies Private Limited (“Newsigma”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal data when you use the Newsigma mobile application, the website newsigma.in, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”). It is published in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”), the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the rules made thereunder, including the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
1. Data we collect
- Account data: name, username, email address, phone number, date of birth, profile photo, and password (stored in hashed form).
- Content you create: posts, memes, comments, reactions, messages, and any media you upload to the Sigma social feed.
- Usage data: stories read, reading depth selected, topics followed, exam-prep activity, search queries, and interaction with other users’ content.
- Creator payout data: where you participate in the creator reward programme — bank account or UPI details, PAN, and other information required for payouts and tax compliance.
- Device and log data: device model, operating system, app version, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, crash logs, and diagnostic information.
- Communications: messages you send to our support or grievance channels.
2. How we use your data
- To create and manage your account and deliver the Platform’s features, including personalised news feeds and exam-prep content.
- To operate the creator reward programme — measuring content performance, calculating remuneration, processing payouts, and meeting tax obligations.
- To moderate content, detect abuse, cross-reference facts, and keep the Platform safe and legally compliant.
- To communicate service updates, security alerts, and (with your consent) promotional messages.
- To analyse aggregate usage trends and improve the Platform.
- To comply with applicable law, legal process, and lawful requests from government authorities.
3. Legal basis and consent
We process your personal data on the basis of your consent given at sign-up, and for certain legitimate uses permitted under the DPDP Act (such as compliance with law and responding to medical or safety emergencies). You may withdraw consent at any time through the app settings or by writing to us; withdrawal will not affect processing already carried out, and may limit the features we can offer you.
4. Sharing of data
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Service providers (data processors) who host, analyse, or support the Platform — such as cloud hosting, payment processors for creator payouts, and analytics providers — under contracts that protect your data.
- Brands and institutions receiving analytics — only in aggregated, anonymised form that cannot identify you.
- Government authorities where required by applicable law or a lawful order.
- Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, or reorganisation, subject to this Policy.
5. Data retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes stated above or as required by law. Account data is deleted or anonymised within a reasonable period after you delete your account, except where retention is required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes. Payout records are retained as required by Indian tax law.
6. Your rights
Subject to the DPDP Act, you have the right to:
- access a summary of the personal data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- erase your personal data, subject to legal retention requirements;
- nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity;
- a readily available means of grievance redressal (see Section 10).
7. Security
We use reasonable security safeguards appropriate to the nature of the data, including encryption in transit, hashed credentials, access controls, and periodic review of our practices. No system is completely secure; please protect your login credentials.
8. Children
The Platform is not intended for children below the age of 13 years. Users below 18 may use the Platform only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian, as required by the DPDP Act. We do not knowingly undertake tracking or behavioural advertising directed at children.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
The website uses minimal cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and anonymous analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect certain features.
