How NewSigma Works

NewSigma brings two different experiences together: a place to understand what is happening and a place to see what people create in response.
The idea: News informs. Sigma creates the reaction.
1. Two sides of NewSigma
News
News is the platform-generated side of NewSigma. It includes General News and IAS News, with content available at different levels of depth so that you can choose how much detail you want.
Sigma
Sigma is the user-generated side of NewSigma. It is where users create and share image and video memes. A meme can stand on its own or be associated with a NewSigma News item or an external link.
Sigma feed views
Sigma currently provides five ways to browse memes in Version 1, in the following sequence:
- Latest - shows the most recently uploaded memes.
- Most Danks (Week) - shows the most-Danked memes from Friday 12:00 AM IST through the current time within the ongoing Friday-to-Thursday competition week.
- Planets View (Week) - presents a visual view of memes from Friday 12:00 AM IST through the current time within the ongoing competition week.
- Most Danks (All Time) - shows the most-Danked memes across the available history of NewSigma.
- Planets View (All Time) - presents a visual discovery view of memes across the available history of NewSigma.
In the Weekly Planets View, seven elliptical orbital paths represent Friday through Thursday. Each circle represents a meme, circle size reflects Danks, older daily uploads are placed on inner orbits and later daily uploads on outer orbits. The first meme uploaded during the competition week is displayed at the centre, the most-Danked meme at that point is highlighted in a Sun-like colour, and selecting a circle opens the associated meme.
The All-Time Planets View applies the same visual discovery concept to the available historical meme set. Planets View is intended to improve discovery of content and does not guarantee equal views or impressions for every meme.
2. Discover a News item
Start with a topic that interests you. NewSigma may provide summaries, background information, analysis, current-affairs coverage or educational material. Important information should be checked against official sources where appropriate.
3. Understand the Context
When relevant, Context connects a Sigma post with an existing NewSigma News item, an external web link or other information. Context can help explain what a meme is referring to, but it should not be used to deliberately mislead users or create a false impression.
4. Create in Sigma
Once you have something to say, create a meme or other permitted user-generated content and share it with the NewSigma community. Users retain ownership of their original User Content, subject to third-party rights and the licence granted to NewSigma in the Terms of Service.
5. Join the community
Sigma is shaped by the people who use it. Users can view, react to, share and interact with public content. Community contributions can add perspective, humour and depth to the conversation.
6. Weekly Sigma
NewSigma runs a recurring Meme Creator recognition programme called Weekly Sigma. Each competition week begins at 12:00:00 AM IST on Friday and ends at 11:59:59 PM IST on the following Thursday, inclusive. An eligible Meme Creator may be recognised as the Sigma of the Week.

7. What happens behind the scenes
- Recommendations and feeds may use automated systems and other signals to help surface relevant content.
- NewSigma may use reports, automated tools, human review and technical signals to help detect abuse, fraud, manipulation and policy violations.
- Some content and engagement may be reviewed for eligibility in creator programmes, including Weekly Sigma.
- Platform features and programmes may change over time, subject to applicable law and any notice obligations that apply.
8. The experience in one flow
Discover a topic -> understand the News -> explore Context -> create in Sigma -> engage with the community -> participate in creator programmes when eligible.
