Purpose and Scope

Sigma is where people create, share and react through memes. Some memes are associated with NewSigma News, while others are standalone or use external Context. We want Sigma to be creative, funny, expressive and open to different kinds of humour and commentary while keeping the Platform lawful, safe and resistant to abuse, spam, manipulation and deception.

These Guidelines apply to memes, images, videos, captions, comments, usernames, profiles, Context, Prior Publication submissions, competition participation and other user activity. They operate together with the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Meme Creator & Reward Guidelines, Grievance Redressal Policy, Refund & Cancellation Policy and other applicable policies.

1. What We Want to See

• Original creative memes and remixes;
• Satire, parody and humour, including dark or absurd humour, subject to these Guidelines and law;
• Political and social commentary;
• Reactions to current events and NewSigma News;
• Cultural references and internet humour;
• Standalone memes that are not connected to a News item;
• Memes associated with accurate and relevant Context.

Being controversial, unpopular, provocative, political or unfunny does not by itself make content a violation. The line is crossed when content or behaviour becomes unlawful, abusive, deceptive, exploitative, materially harmful or deliberately manipulative.

2. Context Matters. Deception Does Not.

Context is optional. Where you use it, you must not deliberately attach a meme to an unrelated News item, provide knowingly false Context, misrepresent a link, fabricate supporting information, or present satire or fiction as genuine reporting with the intention of misleading users.

3. Violence, Crime and Illegal Activity

• Content that promotes or facilitates terrorism or violent extremism;
• Credible threats or incitement to violence or a cognisable offence;
• Instructions or assistance for serious criminal activity;
• Fraud, financial crime, money laundering or unlawful schemes;
• Malware, malicious code, credential theft or phishing;
• Content that unlawfully threatens India's unity, integrity, defence, security, sovereignty, friendly relations with foreign States or public order.

4. Harassment, Hate and Privacy

• Harassment, stalking, bullying, credible threats, targeted intimidation or sustained abuse;
• Threats or encouragement to reveal another person's private information;
• Doxxing or publication of private contact/location/identity information without lawful basis;
• Non-consensual intimate imagery, sextortion or revenge pornography;
• Hateful conduct directed at a person or protected group where prohibited by law or these Guidelines;
• Content designed to humiliate, degrade or endanger a person.

5. Sexual Content and Adult Safety

Because the Platform may be accessed by users of different ages, sexual content and content involving minors are subject to heightened restrictions. The following are prohibited:

• Pornographic or sexually explicit content;
• Sexual acts or content intended primarily for sexual arousal;
• Nudity of private areas in contexts prohibited by law or these Guidelines;
• Sexual exploitation, trafficking, prostitution solicitation or sexual services advertising where prohibited;
• Sextortion, revenge pornography or non-consensual intimate imagery;
• Sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualizes or exploits a minor;
• Sexual content that invades another person's privacy or exposes personal information.

6. Misinformation, Disinformation and Synthetic Media

NewSigma supports humour, satire and parody. You must not knowingly present fabricated information as fact with the intention to mislead or cause material harm.

• False claims presented as genuine reporting;
• Hoaxes or fabricated events designed to manipulate users;
• Manipulated media that falsely depicts a real person or event in a way likely to deceive;
• Synthetic media that impersonates a person or materially misrepresents a real-world event;
• Fraudulent screenshots, documents, credentials, public notices or other false records;
• Deliberate misinformation used to cause reputational, financial or public-safety harm.

Where applicable, synthetic or artificially generated content must be disclosed or labelled as required by NewSigma or applicable law. Routine editing that does not materially alter the substance of authentic content may be treated differently.

7. Intellectual Property

• Do not upload content you do not have the right to use, reproduce, adapt or share.
• Do not remove watermarks, attribution or source information to misappropriate another creator's work.
• If you remix or reshare content, respect the rights of the original creator and any applicable licence.
• Do not use NewSigma-owned logos, branding or proprietary material in ways that imply unauthorized endorsement.

NewSigma may remove content following a valid copyright or intellectual-property complaint and may take stronger action against repeat infringement.

8. Spam, Manipulation and Weekly Sigma Integrity

• Bots or automation used to inflate engagement;
• Purchased Danks, likes, views, comments or shares;
• Engagement-exchange groups intended to manipulate rankings;
• Multiple accounts used to inflate or suppress performance;
• Fraudulent reports designed to disadvantage another creator;
• Coordinated inauthentic behaviour;
• Exploitation of bugs or security weaknesses;
• Repeated spam, misleading promotional posts or malicious links.

9. Prior Publication

Users may report that a meme was publicly published elsewhere before its NewSigma submission. Reports should be accurate and evidence-based. False or malicious reports may themselves violate these Guidelines and may affect Weekly Sigma or other programme eligibility.

10. Platform Abuse and Security

• Unauthorized access attempts;
• Credential theft or phishing;
• Scraping or bulk extraction without permission;
• Interference with Platform availability or integrity;
• Malicious use of APIs, endpoints or hidden functionality;
• Attempts to circumvent moderation, access controls, rate limits or security safeguards.

11. Content Involving Minors and Child Safety

Because minors may use NewSigma, content involving minors must be handled with heightened caution. Content that exploits, sexualizes, grooms, endangers or meaningfully violates the privacy of a minor is prohibited. Any sexual content involving a minor is prohibited, including content that sexualizes or exploits a minor even if presented as a joke, meme, parody or fictionalized scenario. If you encounter apparent child sexual abuse material or other unlawful exploitation of a child, do not repost, download, save or circulate it further; report it through NewSigma's reporting channel and, where appropriate, to competent authorities.

12. Political and Public-Interest Content

Political commentary, criticism, parody and discussion of public figures are permitted. Users remain responsible for complying with applicable law. Do not use political content to impersonate authorities, fabricate official notices, incite violence, materially deceive users or manipulate civic processes through unlawful conduct.

13. Reporting and Appeals

Use the Report feature where available or email [email protected]. Reports should identify the relevant content, explain the concern and provide supporting evidence when possible. Appeals against moderation or account actions may be available through the Grievance Redressal Policy.

14. Enforcement

• Warning or notice;
• Removal or restriction of content;
• Labeling or reduced distribution;
• Feature restrictions;
• Exclusion from Weekly Sigma or rewards;
• Temporary suspension;
• Permanent account closure;
• Referral or disclosure to authorities where required or permitted by law.

15. Meme Creator Responsibilities

Participation in Weekly Sigma does not create an exemption from these Guidelines. Meme Creators must follow the same standards as other users, and may face additional programme consequences for manipulation, Prior Publication violations or reward fraud.

16. Fair Use of the Community

Do not weaponize reporting, blocking, appeals, Context or Prior Publication systems to harass creators or manipulate visibility. Use platform mechanisms in good faith and respect other users' ability to participate safely.

17. How These Guidelines Work With Other Policies

The Terms of Service govern the contractual relationship. The Privacy Policy governs personal-data processing. The Meme Creator & Reward Guidelines govern Weekly Sigma and rewards. The Grievance Redressal Policy governs complaints and appeals. Where applicable law imposes a different requirement, the law prevails.

18. Changes

NewSigma may revise these Guidelines to reflect changes in the Platform, safety practices, law or community needs. The updated version will show a revised date and will be communicated where required.
