Community Guidelines

Sigma is a place where the news meets creativity — memes, takes, and remixes that always link back to a real story. To keep that space fun, safe, and lawful, everyone on the Platform agrees to these Community Guidelines. They apply to all content you post: memes, images, videos, captions, comments, usernames, and profiles. These Guidelines implement, among other things, Rule 3(1)(b) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

1. The golden rule: context is king

Content on Sigma is linked to the news story it comes from. Do not deliberately mislabel or misattach content to unrelated stories, alter linked headlines, or present satire as fact. Satire and parody are welcome — deception is not.

2. Prohibited content

Do not host, display, upload, publish, transmit, or share content that:

• belongs to another person and to which you have no right;
• is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, invasive of another’s privacy (including bodily privacy), insulting or harassing on the basis of gender, or racially or ethnically objectionable;
• encourages money laundering, gambling, or is otherwise unlawful;
• is harmful to children;
• infringes any patent, trademark, copyright, or other proprietary rights;
• deceives or misleads about the origin of a message, or knowingly and intentionally communicates misinformation or patently false information;
• impersonates another person;
• threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security, or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign states, or public order, or incites the commission of any cognisable offence;
• contains a software virus or code designed to interrupt, destroy, or limit the functionality of any computer resource;
• is patently false and untrue, written or published with the intent to mislead or harass for financial gain or to cause injury to any person.

3. Behaviour we don’t allow

• Harassment and bullying: targeted abuse, threats, doxxing, or encouraging others to pile on.
• Hate speech: attacks on people based on religion, caste, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or nationality.
• Violence: glorification or incitement of violence, terrorism, or self-harm.
• Spam and manipulation: repetitive posting, engagement bait, bots, fake accounts, or buying/selling engagement — including to game creator rewards.
• Sexual content: nudity or sexually explicit material, and any sexualisation of minors (reported to authorities).

4. Moderation: how enforcement works

• Automated screening: every post is screened by automated systems that cross-reference facts against linked sources and detect prohibited content.
• Human review: flagged content and appeals are reviewed by our moderation team.
• Actions: depending on severity, we may label, restrict reach, remove content, withhold rewards, suspend accounts temporarily, or terminate accounts permanently. Illegal content may be reported to authorities and preserved as required by law.
• Repeat offences: strikes accumulate; three strikes in 90 days generally lead to suspension of posting and reward privileges.

5. Reporting and appeals

Use the in-app Report option on any content or profile, or write to grievance@newsigma.in. If your content was actioned and you believe we got it wrong, you can appeal in-app within 7 days; appeals are decided within 15 days. Full details are in the Grievance Redressal Policy.

6. Creator responsibilities

Creators earning rewards are held to a higher standard. Content that violates these Guidelines is ineligible for rewards, and manipulation of reward metrics results in forfeiture and possible removal from the programme, as described in the Creator Reward Guidelines.

7. Changes

We may update these Guidelines as the community and the law evolve. Material changes will be notified in-app.
